Gaming Week Malmø - as content creator!
My thoughts on it all.
Both the good and the bad!
Incredibly thankful for the opportunity to be a content creator at the convention!
Wore my new Dr. Ryland Grace from Project Hail Mary, cosplay on the friday of the con. And wore Dana Scully with my partner as Fox mulder for the saturday of the con!
Only went Friday and Saturday, as i felt too busted Sunday.
There also wasn't much for us to do. As neither me nor my partner is into anime and most anime-adjacent things. . And most of the vendors were exactly that
Tho we did buy Pokémon and Lorcana cards. So it isn't to say there was nothing to buy, but i would have loved a wider variety in different fandoms. As it felt like it mostly catered to anime and Asian-related fandoms.
Which is great for those interested in those, but as someone mostly into superheroes and sci-fi, there wasn't much to keep me interested. and the very few anime i do like, there was nothing to see from those.
Artist alley was much better in that regard. A much better variety. It had all sorts of different fandoms and different creative people!
Sadly, it was quite crammed to walk in there and so warm that i started feeling sick very quickly from being in there. Which meant i didn't get to look around as much as I had wanted, as there were quite a few artists i was excited to see. But what little I did get to see was really nice!
But my biggest issue with the Convention was the quite confusing map, as i got lost constantly and couldn't find my way around at all. As the location itself easily gets confusing, I had to rely on a map that, sadly, I couldn't read at all.
And while there were plenty of signs around, I didn't feel they helped me much. They in fact made me more confused. I don't have a picture, but it was boxes with arrows and the area on it, but it seemed that the arrows just pointed all over the place, instead of guiding one very well.
Also i always want more food options that are safe for people like myself who can't eat gluten or lactose, as sadly i couldn't visit the maid cafe due to those food restrictions. And if I could have, it wasn't advertised anywhere.
And since i couldn't see there being any safe food options, i didn't want to waste the people at the maid cafés' time and take up a table someone else could have gotten. I hope in the future to see more food options, even if it is just a few, that are clearly stated to be gluten-free and lactose-free
So overall if you love anime conventions, like koyo or ninjin! i would say fancon is a good con to go to.
Also especially a good one if you haven't been to a convention yet and want to visit a smaller one. Or if you are more into a convention where not alot happens so you can chill out with friends and browse the many figurines and pokemon cards.
But if you are like me and prefer other fandoms, i would say it isn't the best. I had looked forward to this con as it very much advertised itself as a con for all fandoms.. but in reality it didn't feel that way to me.
But of course everyone is different and likes different things. And hopefully it will in the future, include many more fandoms!
